Youth in Big Brothers Big Sisters Programs Show Improvements in Academic, Behavioral and Socio-Emotional Outcomes
New data from Philadelphia-based Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, developed in partnership with leading researchers, substantiate that the national mentoring program has positive academic, socio-emotional and behavioral outcomes for youth who face adversity.
“We are excited to have Kit Curran on board. I know our staff and supporters will be impressed with what she brings to the organization,” said Tim Minard, president of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa board of directors.
President Obama Proclaims January 2012 National Mentoring Month

National mentoring month is a time to pay tribute to the Big Brothers Big Sisters community and to encourage others to Start Something to extend our reach.
Sixth Annual Helping Hands from Local Heroes Event
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Iowa select the children from participants in their respective programs. This is also their sixth year to participate in the program. One child per family shops with a public safety official who is provided a $100.00 gift card for the child.
“Coaches’ Mentoring Challenge” closes gap for the first time since its inception
The end of the estimated “mentoring gap” is a result of the “Coaches’ Mentoring Challenge,” an Iowa Mentoring Partnership initiative led by University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and Iowa State University football coach Paul Rhoads Aug. 1 - Dec. 3, 2011.
