Back to School

As a new school year begins, BBBSCI is needing mentors for our School-Based Mentoring Program.

For this program, BBBSCI partners with select schools in Polk County. A mentor (Big) is matched with the child (Little) and visits the child at school for 30-60 minutes each week to offer one-to-one support and guidance with school, building confidence and helping them reach their full potential.

Each week, the Little and Big work on school assignments, play educational games or read a book together. The teacher ensures that scheduled visit times do not interfere with regular scheduled classes. We serve children who are in kindergarten to 5th grade.

Bigs are trained by BBBSCI staff. We conduct background checks on each of our Bigs- criminal, child abuse and driving records to ensure the safety of Littles.

To become a School-Based Big, please contact Silas Jensen, School-Based Mentoring Coordinator, at [email protected] or 515-288-9025 x231.
