For Kingston, Chris and Liz's presence in his life has meant more than just mentorship. It has meant gaining a second family.

Matched in July 2017, Chris and Liz have shown what true, long-term commitment looks like. Through life’s ups and downs—including personal hardships, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Kingston’s own academic struggles—they have remained a constant, reliable presence. Their relationship has grown far beyond a traditional match. Today, Kingston proudly refers to them as his “second parents,” and his mom, Patrina, shares that they are simply family.

That level of trust didn’t happen overnight. It was built through years of showing up, staying consistent, and leading with care.

When Kingston began facing challenges in school, including falling grades and difficulty staying engaged, Chris and Liz stepped in without hesitation. They became strong advocates for his education—helping with homework multiple times a week, providing transportation to and from school, attending meetings, and staying in close communication with his teachers.

Their dedication paid off.

With their support, Kingston made a remarkable turnaround. His grades improved significantly, including earning an A in Chemistry, and his overall performance reached a level his family described as a “huge improvement.” Beyond academics, teachers began noticing increased maturity, focus, and confidence in the classroom.

Kingston himself recognizes the difference their support has made. He shared that he wasn’t attending school regularly at the start of the year, but with Chris and Liz by his side, he has gotten back on track.

But the impact of this match goes far beyond grades.

Chris and Liz have created a relationship rooted in trust, stability, and genuine care. Patrina has expressed that she never has to worry when Kingston is with them—a testament to the safe, supportive environment they have built together. Their connection is natural, comfortable, and deeply meaningful.

Through nearly a decade of mentorship, Chris and Liz have helped Kingston not only succeed in school, but also grow in confidence, resilience, and belief in himself.

Their story is a powerful reminder that when a young person has someone consistently in their corner—someone who shows up, listens, and cares—it can truly change the trajectory of their life.
